Building a Dock
The frames, decks and floats of docks have come a long way from the old wooden affair that creaked as you cast off or clambered on.
In addition to fine, traditional woods such as red cedar, they're now made from a wide variety of materials that also combine strength and stability. Aluminum, steel and PVC/vinyl frame make many of them easy to install, lift out of the water or remove and store for the winter (if needed) and to maintain. Many manufacturers offer modular construction allowing a myriad of design configurations.
Take care of your dock. In additon to the usual wear and tear, aluminum and steel frames may be bent or damaged moving in and out of water, dragging on ground or if left in water during storms or through the winter.
