Feng Shui: Finding Balance in Design
The three basic concepts of feng shui:

- Energy flow - wavy or curvy lines are beneficial; straight lines encourage the negative cutting force.
- Balance of yin - dark, soft, passive and yang - light, hard, active.
- Generative and destructive relationships of the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
A feng shui practitioner uses a compass or places an octagonal map over the floorplan of a house or office to determine the energy characteristics of a building and its effects on the occupants. Calculations are done, then remedies are prescribed where necessary in order to balance the energy to produce a positive effect.
