Cigarette Burn on Marble Countertop
Q: I have a cultured marble bathroom countertop that has a cigarette burn on it. It is very annoying to see that brown stain since we are not smokers. It was done by a guest. Can you tell me the best way to get the brown discoloration from it?
A: Cultured marble tops are much softer than porcelain,
so they will stain, burn and scratch easily. One simple method
to restore the area is to rub the area using fine (600 grit) sandpaper
or rubbing compound. Another way is using special "polishing/whitening"
toothpaste that contains a very mild abrasive. The final luster
may be restored with car wax applied with a very fine cloth.
Cultured marble surfaces that seem beyond help may often be repaired and resurfaced in a new solid color, but the two-toned marbling effects will be gone.
