Loose Fill Paving Problems
Paving problems can come in a variety of forms, from cracks to potholes to washboarding.

Common paving problems
- Washboarding resembles the bumpy surface of an old-fashioned wash board. Often found on unpaved dirt roads, and caused by natural water erosion.
- Potholes are holes in pavement found in virtually all materials, caused by natural freeze-thaw cycles. You can slow the development of potholes by sealing any cracks in paving surfaces.
- A trough is a long indentation found in pavement, similar to potholes. You can slow their development by sealing any cracks in paving surfaces.
- General erosion. All pavement will erode from climate effects and use. You can fix problems by replacing the surface or adding another layer of pavement on top.
- Water pooling is often caused by an unstable subsurface sinking over time.
- Grading/slope problems are possibly due to improper site preparation, and can turn into potholes over time.
