Metal Roofing
Metal roofing is an innovative approach to home improvement. When you think of a metal roof, you would often think of a commercial building. Fortunately for homeowners, that's no longer the case. In addition to the many technical benefits of metal roofing, it can be designed to look like conventional shingles, tile or slate. Visual appeal is one of the cosmetic reasons that someone may choose metal roofing. It can be light in color compared to other material, which is not always the norm. But it never hurts to lighten up, right?
Metal roofing is a low maintenance option for roofing, which makes it ideal for many. Generally, it carries a 25 to 50 year warranty. Metal roofing also carries the highest wind resistance rating available. In fact, some metal roofing systems have the ability to withstand wind speeds up to 120 mph. It is also known to be beneficial during an earthquake, hail storm or other inclement weather. While many other roofs may be devastated during a storm, metal roofing can generally withstand a lot of stress.
The benefits of metal roofing include energy efficiency, environmental benefits, quick installation, lightweight design, longevity and durability. Metal roofing is said to keep homes cozy in the winter as it distributes heat thoroughly to keep the house warm. Equally efficient in the summer, consumers who choose metal roofing may also see lower cooling costs during the hot summer months. Some metal roofing systems contain a special coating to prevent rust, which can present a problem with other conventional roofing materials.
Metal roofing has fire safety benefits and also the ability to resist mold and fungus that may damage other roofing structures. In addition, the quick installation is a plus if you only want to spend a few days installing your roof. Providing the design of your roof is not overly complicated, installation should be complete in less than a week.
While metal roofing has many benefits, cost is not necessarily among them. Homeowners can expect to spend between $5,000 and $15,000, including materials and labor, install metal roofing. The original price is somewhat higher than other conventional roofing but, when you look at the big picture, it may save money that you would otherwise be spending on repairs. While other roofing structures need a lot of maintenance, metal roofing is virtually maintenance free. In addition, some insurance companies offer a discount to homeowners with metal roofing.
Metal roofing is somewhat noisier than other roofing materials, but if you don't mind falling asleep to the pings of rain drops, a noisier roof wouldn't be much of an issue.
If you have the money to spend on metal roofing, it may be an overall good investment. Ultimately, the roof is the only thing standing between your family and the effects of Mother Nature. When making any large home improvement or construction decision, consider every option available. As homeowners, we must think about the future while budgeting for the present.
