Choosing a Tile Floor
Q: We have a one-storey, three bedroom house. The kitchen has ceramic tile, the dining room, living room, hallway and bedrooms are carpeted, and the entry has ceramic tile. We have been thinking of removing the carpet in the dining room and hallway, and replacing it with ceramic tile. The kitchen and entry tile needs to be replaced.
We have hardwood floors under the carpeting. Would there be a problem changing the flooring to ceramic tile?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
A: You need to consult some flooring experts who offer several different kinds of flooring, have them look at your home, and explain your options, prices, etc. There may even be some products you haven't considered, such as laminate flooring that looks like tile or hardwood.
Comparing suggestions and collecting bids from several different experts is almost always the best way to choose the best product as well as the service professional you prefer to hire. Be sure they submit written proposals detailing the specific product as well as the scope of work (i.e. demolition, preparation, etc.) so you know exactly what you will be getting for your money.
