Install Your Own Concrete Flooring
Q: I need to put concrete floors in my out-building. Can you provide me with resources or an instruction guide on how to "do-it-yourself"? Any information will be much appreciated as I have had difficulty in finding concrete services.
A: Thanks for your inquiry. There are many elements to consider when installing concrete, including the site preparation, reinforcement, additives, expansion joints, proper curing, etc. Then there are special finishes available, including exposed aggregate, colors, stains, stamped patterns, etc.
Considering the expense of concrete, its tendency to crack if improperly installed and the difficulty and expense of replacing a poorly done job, I strongly encourage you to hire a qualified concrete contractor to install it for you. In most cases, hiring a professional with the expertise and tools to do the job right the first time is worth avoiding the hassles and expense of having to have a substandard job re-done. I can think of few projects this advice would apply to more than installing concrete!
