Recycle!
Some communities have a choice and may request the services of private recycling companies to pick up their own recycling bins independent of the garbage service. They are very convenient because consumers can comingle cans, glass, plastic jugs and bottles, newspaper and cardboard boxes in one container and yard trimmings, including grass cuttings, weeds, leaves, flowers, tree branches and twigs, shrubs, holiday trees, etc. in another container.
Lately,
more is being recycled, including aluminum foil and pans, milk
and juice cartons, scrap metal including small kitchen appliances,
newspapers, magazines, cardboard, and mixed paper including junk
mail, cereal boxes, catalogs, paper egg cartons and wrapping paper.
Private recycling companies will pay consumers who bring them
such recyclable products as aluminum, stainless steel, brass,
copper and other scrap metal, tiles, automotive parts, etc.
Household hazardous waste, including paint, stain, varnish, thinner, adhesives, auto products such as old fuel, motor oil, oil filters, batteries, household cleaners and sprays, garden products such as pesticides and herbicides still need to be taken to special sites for safe disposal.
