Mud Stains on Concrete Patio
Q: I have mud stains on my concrete patio. I have tried washing them off with water and a bristle brush to no avail. I was going to try a steel brush, but I didn't want to score the concrete and the patio is quite large. Do you know of an easier way to approach this?
A: Try adding some good dishwashing detergent to that water and if the area is large, use a clean push broom instead of a hand held brush, then rinse well.
If that doesn't work, try a one part household bleach one third parts water solution and rinse again. If it is a mineral like rust, try one part vinegar to three parts water.
If that does not work you might want to consider resurfacing the area with an overlay. We would apply a half-inch epoxy rock overlay that is much denser, smoother and shinier than traditional exposed aggregate. It is available in a variety of colors and sizes to create multi-colored patios, borders, etc. Water runs through the top layer so there is never any standing water on the surface and it carries a 10-year warranty (and will last far longer with occasional resealing). We can also extend or make any necessary repairs to existing concrete before resurfacing.
